I have been tracking my record in a table that I set up in Microsoft Word nd I have been updating everything manually. I want to enter the 21st century and use Excel however I do not know how do take the numbers (stake) in column B adding it the numbers (winnings) in column C and subracting it from the numbers in column D (loses) giveing me a total in E1. Does anyone know the formula I would need to input to get this?

Column B
+
Column C
-
Column D
=
E1

Any help would be great. Thanks

Place this:

=B1+C1-D1

in E1, and then you can copy-and-paste E1 as far down as you want and the formula will change automatically to tally all of the other rows below it...

Just to add to brewers, make sure if you have a calculation that you type in "=" or "+" to let Excel know you want a calculation. Just typing in text will result in Excel thinking you're typing in text for labels or whatever. Also, you can use copy and paste (highlight multiple cells that you want to paste your formula) so you don't have to manually type it in. "Ctrl-c" (copy) and "Ctrl-v" (paste) for shortcuts. Excel automatically adapts the formulas in the new cells too so you don't have to worry about pointing to the same cells.
